Notecards featuring a watercolor painting by Mickie West entitled "Crystal Cafe Greenwood." It is one of the paintings in Mickie's Mississippi Memories collection.

The Crystal Cafe served the community for almost 90 years before closing its doors in 2024. Instead of selling the restaurant, owner Johnny Ballas decided to donate the building to the local community kitchen to give back to the community that has given so much to him and his business.

Crystal Grill was founded in the 1920s in Greenwood, MS. Known as “The Elite,” it evolved through the years and was passed down through Ballas’ family. In the 1930s the family held a contest to come up with the name Crystal Grill, which the restaurant kept ever since. In the 1930s, the restaurant also went by Crystal Cafe before changing to Crystal Grill. What started as a one-room café quickly grew to six rooms with nearly 250 seats. The restaurant served Greek, Italian and American food and was famous for its “mile-high” meringue pie.

These 4.25"x 5.5" notecards can be purchased as a set of ten notecards with envelopes or included in the Mississippi Memories Collection of cards. The painting also comes in a 5x7 print and can be ordered in other sizes.
