Hey! I'm Mickie West
Thanks for checking out my Shopify store! It's an honor to tell you a bit more about myself.....Personally, I am a lover of Jesus, "Minnie" to four amazing grands, "Mama" to two sons and their beautiful wives, owner of two doodles, and I am passionate about my mission in Haiti and my art.
About Me....
I have always been a creative person who enjoys many forms of art, but in recent years, I have developed a love for watercolor. When I was a young mother, desiring to be at home with our boys, I decided to use my artistic gifts for income. I painted wall murals in people's homes as well as decorated colorful and artistic cakes for birthdays and other events. Later in life, I was called by God to become a missionary to Haiti. I lived there for eight years and didn't have much time for my art. In 2019, my husband and I ended up back in the US unable to return to Haiti because of the civil unrest there. It was at this time that I decided to return to my love of art and paint images in my mind and heart as a sort of healing mechanism. As I shared my art with others, people began to request that I paint things for them. I decided to have many of my Haiti paintings printed onto notecards and prints to sell to those who shared my love of Haiti. Eventually, I branched out to painting home places and landscapes and pets. I have also kept very busy doing commissions for people. After losing my husband to prostate cancer in 2024, I began to return to my love of writing and am now writing my memoir. I also began to develop an interest in pottery! I am not sure why, but I feel like I can continue to heal if I am using my hands to create art, and pottery is a beautiful art to me, so I'm learning.
Through all of this, I decided to create a business that emphasizes my writing as well as my various art forms, so I began to search my heart for a meaningful name for my business. I decided on "Rock Road Reads & Art" because the road that led to our mission in Haiti was often called the "rock road." It was actually a dried up riverbed converted to a road. It was that road that led me to experience many miracles, develop many friendships, and build a lifetime of memories that I will always incorporate into my writing and my art.
Thank you for stopping by my store and browsing some of the things I have for sale from my collection of art. Once I get some pottery ready for sale, I will add it to my store. And when I finish my book, I will add it to the store as well. I believe that one day, this store will be FILLED with many books and paintings and pottery pieces that express my love of life and my desire to be near to and more like my Heavenly Father who is the greatest artist of all. He is the potter, the painter, and the author of my life's story.
